ComedyNerd is about stand-up comedy: new specials, the comedians who make them, and the tours around them. It's written by a working comic for people who watch a lot of stand-up and want to know what's worth an hour of their night.

Who writes it

ComedyNerd is written by a working stand-up comedian.

Doing comedy changes how you watch it. You notice how a set is built, where a callback was planted forty minutes earlier, and when a comic is coasting on a crowd that already loves them. That's the angle here: honest takes from someone who knows what a laugh costs.

What ComedyNerd covers

• Reviews of new stand-up specials on Netflix, HBO Max, Hulu, Prime Video, YouTube and elsewhere, usually within a few days of release.
• Lists and rankings, like the best specials of the year so far.
• Profiles of comedians: where they came from, how their act has changed, and where to start with their work.
• News about tours, festival line-ups and newly announced specials.
• Guides to where to watch, and where to start if you're new to stand-up.

How reviews work

Every review is written after watching the full special, and ends with one of three verdicts:

• Watch it: worth your time, even if you don't know the comic yet.
• Worth a look: good in parts; fans will get more out of it than newcomers.
• Skip it: there are better hours of stand-up out there.

Some reviews also give a score out of 10. Nobody pays for coverage, and no comedian, network or streaming service sees a review before it's published.
